Suicide's Note

In the poem "Suicide's Note", river represents death. River is "calm" and "cool", making a situational irony since the narrator is not "calm" and "cool" although the river is a reflection of the person. "Calm" and "cool" also makes an alliteration which draws attention to the face of the river. The writer personifies river since it "asked" the narrator "for a kiss". We can see that the person is free to kill him/herself or not because the river "asked" for it. However, I think the narrator will eventually choose to suicide because he/she shows admiration for the river, using positive words when describing it.
On the other hand, this poem reminds me of a story of Narcissus, who loved the reflection of himself on the river and eventually killed himself after he failed to kiss the reflection. Narcissus tried to kiss the "calm, cool face" he saw on the river which "asked" him "for a kiss", but of course he could not; successful "kiss" meant suicide.
